Wyze Indoor Security Camera Review

It is cheap! Like, ridiculously cheap. But is it worth the price? In this post, we are going to review the Wyze indoor security camera to find out!

The Wyze Cam is a budget indoor security camera from the Seattle-based company, Wyze. Check this Wyze indoor security camera review and find out all the advantages this budget option brings for your home setup.

The Wyze Cam features a static base that can be manually adjusted for a particular angle as well as raised or lowered to a particular height. It comes with person alerts and 14-day cloud storage for free and features a microSD card slot for continuous, local recording.

Getting these features for free means this camera is even better value for money than its initially small price tag suggests, the total value is incredibly high.

Here is a list of all the features that come with the camera’s initial purchase, without any additional subscription:

  • 1080p HD resolution.
  • Voice support for Alexa and Google Assistant.
  • IFTTT integration.
  • Motion alerts.
  • Sound detection with added smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
  • Person alerts.
  • A motion detection zone.
  • Motion and sound-alert based 14-day cloud storage.
  • MicroSD card slot.
  • A 110-degree FoV.
  • Adjustable, magnetic base.

  • Time-lapse.

All in all, there are a lot of features. The only thing that is not free is the microSD card which is required for local storage. This makes the Wyze Cam hard to beat in terms of sheer value.

How Easy Is It To Set Up?

Here is the tricky part. I had some issues setting it up.

It took me nearly 10 attempts to get the Wyze camera connected to my WiFi router. I cursed. A lot. Eventually, it worked, and I have not looked back.

Here is a tip if you are having the same problem: Perform a factory reset on the Wyze camera by holding down the settings button until the light changes to a solid yellow light.

Wait for it to begin flashing before you continue.

We have put together a post to help you troubleshoot security camera problems if you need it!

Not only is it cheap but the Wyze Cam works well, too. All it needs is a stable WiFi connection. Testing found that the camera is quick and accurate with its notifications for motion and sound.

The motion detection zone is quick and easy to set up and works as intended. While creating more that one of these zones would be useful, this is still a solid free feature.

The video received from the live view is crisp and with the HD option, it is easy to make out all the significant details. When viewing the feed through the mobile app, it is possible to choose between HD and SD views.

The only thing missing is the 4K option offered by some of the more expensive alternatives. The night vision is also triggered automatically and there is the option to turn it on manually at any time. Once again, the cloud storage system saves all of the relevant footage for free for two weeks.

The app offers plenty of options for customization. These including the sensitivity of the motion and sound detection and the ability to opt-in or out of additional features.

For those who are concerned with the privacy involved with the storage of their security footage on a cloud platform, Wyze’s privacy statement has more information. The company utilizes Amazon Web Services for its cloud storage.

Pay Less for a Great Indoor Security Camera

As this Wyze indoor security camera review shows, the system is an incredible amount of value for its price-tag. For less than most of the available alternatives, this indoor camera includes two weeks of cloud storage, the option for local storage, person alerts, advanced audio detection as well as a detection zone.

This Wyze cam is a great camera at an affordable price.

The Wyze Cam is not perfect. Ideally, it would have the option for more than one detection zone.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, if you want a cheap, feature-packed indoor security camera, then you cannot go wrong with this Wyze option.

Honestly, I cannot see how they can produce something this cheap with so many features.

Take a gamble!
